To strengthen the research capacity and international competitiveness, the Spanish Government has defined the offer of high-quality PhD Programs as strategic objectives (EU2015). This means organizing PhD Programs in a more structured way, by integrating them into Doctoral Schools.
The University of Murcia has created the International Doctoral School (EIDUM), with a clear strategy of guaranteeing leadership in its fields of knowledge and ensuring a sufficient critical mass of professors and doctoral students.
Taking into account this international, national and institutional context, five Spanish universities (University of Alicante; University of Almería; University of Castilla-La Mancha; University of La Laguna; University of Murcia) believe it is necessary to form a strategic alliance to design an Inter-university PhD Program that is capable of integrating into EIDUM and serving to add professors and researchers to research teams and projects with greater impact and excellence.
The Inter-university PhD Program in Philosophy from the University of Alicante, University of Almería, University of Castilla-La Mancha, University of La Laguna, University of Murcia and University of Zaragoza is linked to extensive research traditions. Specifically, among its antecedents, it includes the current PhD Programs taught at the Universities of La Laguna and Murcia, recognized by the Ministry with mentions of excellence and quality, respectively.
