Selection criteria:

In the event that the demand for admission is higher than the offer, the following admission criteria will apply.

The order of priority for access to this PhD Program will be as follows:

  • Students from the previous PhD Program in Applied and Environmental Sciences at the University of Almería and from the Masters’ specified above (in section "a" of the Admission Criteria).
  • Students from other official master's degrees, of at least 60 ECTS credits, taken at other universities and carried out within the field of knowledge of Applied or Environmental Sciences.
  • Students with an Advanced Studies Diploma in the programs related to Applied and Environmental Sciences taken at the University of Almería.
  • Students with an Advanced Studies Diploma in programs related to Applied or Environmental Sciences from another university.

Within each access quota, the following criteria will be followed to order applicants:

  • Academic Record: 50%
  • Curriculum vitae (20%).
  • Personal interview (30%). The interview will be the responsibility of the Academic Committee together with the professors-researchers who offer places on their research lines.

Students with specific educational needs derived from disability will have the appropriate support and advisory services, which will assess the need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies.

The University of Almería considers those students with part-time commitment to the teaching of the PhD Program in Applied and Environmental Sciences, with a specific training activity program for said students.

For full-time students, it is estimated that one should have a planned itinerary of 3 years to complete the doctoral thesis, considering the possibility of a 1-year extension, and, in exceptional cases, a further year; in both cases, this follows a favorable report from the Academic Committee. In the case of part-time students (active professionals, etc.), the planned itinerary is 5 years, which can be extended by 2 years, and, in exceptional cases, a further year; in both cases, this follows a favorable report from the Academic Committee based on the student’s personal situation and the requirements of the thesis in question.

For the purposes of calculating the previous period, sick leave, pregnancy or any other cause provided by current regulations will not be taken into account.

Likewise, the doctoral student may request their temporary withdrawal from the program for a maximum period of one year, which can be extended up to one more year. Said request must be addressed to, and justified before, the Academic Committee responsible for the program, which will rule on whether it is appropriate to grant the doctoral student’s request.
