Objectives
This degree is intended to train competent law professionals, in accordance with the guidelines established in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October (published in the Official Spanish State Gazette No. 260 of 30 October 2007) and in the White Paper of the National Quality Assessment and Accreditation Agency (ANECA). Accordingly, the four main objectives of this Bachelor's Degree are:
- To provide students with a broad general knowledge of Law, with a view to preparing experts who are able to accomplish a range of professional roles, reflecting the versatile nature of this degree and its multi-professional profile, as described in point 2 of this Report. To this end, the curriculum aims to provide multidisciplinary flexible training, allowing students to obtain not only a series of specific competencies in the different disciplines but also a set of generic skills which will enable them to be employed in a variety of positions in a changing professional world. The degree also prepares future graduates to follow further specialised postgraduate studies, in which they can receive more specific training in line with particular professional profiles.
- The training builds on the graduates’ capacity to apply their juridical knowledge to solving practical legal problems, facing those problems with resolve, and providing them with strong communication and social skills. Students will be able to draw up professional documents and produce high quality legal research papers; furthermore, they will improve their oral communication skills in the relevant forums.
- The degree builds up the skills, competencies and abilities necessary to tackle future professional work autonomously (self-employed), to continue training (Life-long Learning), and to successfully enter a work environment (team work), all with a special emphasis on using and applying ICTs.
- The degree aims to provide the Law graduates with a comprehensive training as citizens, so that they not only have an adequate professional capacity but also an ethical commitment to practice law with a respect for fundamental rights, gender equality, human rights and the principals of universal accessibility and design for all (as established by the tenth and final provision of Law 51/2003 of 2 December on equal opportunity, non-discrimination and universal accessibility for persons with disabilities), and in accordance with the values of peace, democracy, environmental protection and development cooperation.
Competencies
Competencies are understood to be “the identifiable and assessable set of interconnected knowledge, attitudes, values, abilities and skills, which will allow the student to exercise his/her professional activity according to the requirements and standards used in the corresponding occupational area”.
All University of Almeria degrees explicitly include three types of competencies:
- The generic competencies included in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, which establishes the organization of official higher education.
- The generic competencies of the University of Almeria (approved by the Governing Council on 17 July 2008). These are transversal competencies common to all the degrees.
- The specific competencies of the degree. These competencies are detailed in the degree’s report and are related to its particular subjects. Some of these competencies may have been agreed at the Andalusian regional level, or for certain degrees, they may be regulated at the state level.
Basic, General and Cross-Curricular Competencies
The basic competencies for all bachelor’s degrees are defined in Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October, and are aimed at the student acquiring general training in one or more disciplines, oriented towards preparing them to carry out professional activities.
