PhD Program in Health, Psychology and Psychiatry

This inter-university PhD Program in Health, Psychology and Psychiatry from the University of Almería and the Rovira i Virgili University (Coordinating University) groups together specific fields of study related to Health, in general, and Mental Health in particular, encompassing aspects of Psychology as well as Psychiatry, neurotoxicology and neurorehabilitation. It is also supported by a set of consolidated and accredited research lines and groups, both nationally and internationally.

The doctorate, is articulated from two previous PhD Programs, Genetic Mental Health and the Environment (a program with a mention of excellence), which originated from merging the PhD in Genetic and Environmental Psychiatry with the PhD in Neurotoxicology and Psychopharmacology (a PhD Program with a MEC Quality Mention since 2004). In this sense, the doctorate has been repeatedly accredited for 8 years, corresponding to the quality mentions and the subsequent excellence mention it has obtained.

Objetives

The development of the training plan must provide the doctoral degree holder with adequate training to develop their professional and research activity, which will always be carried out:

  1. respecting the fundamental rights and equality between men and women,
  2. respecting and promoting Human Rights and the principles of universal accessibility and design for all (according to Royal Legislative Decree 1/2013, of November 29, which approved the Consolidated Text of the General Law on the rights of people with disabilities and their social inclusion),
  3. in accordance with the values of peace and democracy pertaining to a culture.

Professionals trained for research in this program can channel their work through different routes: in the clinical and healthcare field, directly in the laboratories of the manufacturing companies (pharmaceutical and chemical companies, etc.), in specialized consulting companies, and public or private research centers, etc. It is therefore essential to establish postgraduate programs, such as the present one, which respond to these new interdisciplinary specialization requirements.
