To access the Doctorate in Mathematics research period, it will be necessary to meet some of the following requirements:
- Bein possession of the Official Master's Degree in Mathematics, or another similar official degree of the same level issued by a higher education institution in the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).
- Be in possession of a degree obtained in accordance with educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area, without the need for homologation, after verifying that it accredits a level of training equivalent to that of the Official Spanish Master's Degree, and that it grants access to doctoral studies in the country issuing the degree. In no case will this admission imply the homologation of the previous degree that the interested party possesses, nor its recognition for other purposes other than pursuing the doctoral studies.
In accordance with the provisions of article 7 of RD 99/2011, which regulates official doctoral studies, as well as the regulations governing official doctoral studies and doctorate degrees from the University of Granada, approved in Governing Council on May 2, 2012, and in accordance with the Collaboration Agreement signed between the Universities of Almería, Cádiz, Granada, Jaén and Málaga, the Academic Committee of the Joint PhD Program in Mathematics, agrees on the following admission criteria:
- Academic record (average grade). A range will be established between 0 and 5, with 0 being the score corresponding to the minimum grade necessary to pass the undergraduate studies and 5 the score corresponding to the maximum grade that can be achieved.
- Curriculum vitae. Previous research and teaching experience will be assessed. (Up to 2 points)
- Links through a scholarship or contract with the University of Granada, or with any other of the collaborating institutions. (Up to 2 points)
- Presenting the endorsement of a professor from the Program, or a researcher of recognized prestige, who is available to direct or co-direct the thesis. (Up to 2 points)
- Personal interview with the Local Program Coordinator. The student’s motivation and personal commitment to the PhD Program will be evaluated. (Up to 1 point)
Admission to the Program will require a minimum score of 7 points.
To be admitted to the PhD Program’s research period, student candidates must submit an application that will be assessed by the Academic Committee. Among the admission criteria taken into account will be:
- The applicant's prior training, especially the skills acquired in the postgraduate training period. Students coming from a Master’s in the field of Mathematics will be assessed preferentially.
- Their Curriculum Vitae. Among the merits assessed will be the student’s accredited level of language knowledge, their professional experience, their publications and the letters of reference that support their application from professors and researchers specialized in the subject.
- The research interests declared by the applicant.
- Their commitment to the Program.
- The scientific feasibility and interest of the thesis project presented, if applicable.
- The availability of tutors to direct the thesis.
- The outcome of the personal interview, if applicable.
In those applicants for whom certain training deficiencies are detected, the Academic Committee may require them to complete specific training supplements. These training supplements will be compulsory for those students whose training period access is guaranteed by them possessing an Official Spanish Graduate degree (of at least 300 credits) unless the corresponding degree’s study plan includes research training credits, equivalent in training value to the research credits.
The Academic Committee of the corresponding Program will analyze the particular cases of students with special educational needs in order to adapt the training program to guarantee they can acquire the competencies pertaining to the doctoral level.
The admission criteria will be the same for full-time and part-time students, who will have to establish and justify their time commitment in the admission application.
Students with specific educational requirements derived from disability will have an academic advisor in the admission process who will assess their need for possible curricular adaptations, itineraries or alternative studies.
