The PhD student may choose up to three research lines in the pre-registration process. Previously, the group of research candidates (who will act as tutors associated to each research line) will be published, in accordance with the Academic Committee agreement. Preferably, the first lines requested will be those assigned; however, in the event that there are more applications than places available, the allocation of lines will be prioritized based on the applicant’s academic record, which will be assessed and resolved with due publicity by the Academic Committee. This procedure allows the automatic assignment of a tutor, with Academic Committee intervention only taking place when required.
During the academic tutoring period (within a maximum period of six months), the tutor and student will submit a proposal for academic direction that, once approved by the Academic Committee, will be sent to the Postgraduate Studies Committee so that they may assess the suitability of the research (based on the availability of resources) and ratify the assignment of the doctoral student’s thesis supervisor.

A. Admission Without Training Supplements.

1) Those students who have obtained the Master's Degree in INDUSTRIAL AND AGRI-FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY from the University of Almería (professional orientation) may be admitted to this doctorate.
2) Those students who have obtained a Master's degree other than the Master's degree in INDUSTRIAL AND AGRI-FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY from the University of Almería, or who have completed the training period of a PhD Program (by any of the mechanisms provided in applicable legislation) but at the same level and in a related field of knowledge (Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Agronomic Engineering etc.), from a Spanish or

In this case, prior authorization from the PhD Program’s Academic Committee will be required; they will assess the adequacy of the applicant’s training profile by holding a personal interview and/or by assessing a justified claim of merits provided by the applicant proving they are authorized to start the research period. In both cases, students must pass, or have completed, the training supplements specified in section 3.4 of this Report, although the Academic Committee may recognize or validate them, as requested, based on the training accredited to the student. These training supplements should preferably be completed in the first year of study and, in any event, before the end of studies.

In the event that the demand for admission is greater than the offer available, priority will be given firstly to those students who possess the Master's in INDUSTRIAL AND AGRI-FOOD BIOTECHNOLOGY from the University of Almería.

In the event that the demand for admission continues to be greater than the offer available, the PhD Program’s Academic Committee will assess the scientific-technical and academic merits of each case according to the following scale:

  • Academic Record: 50%
  • Curriculum vitae 20%
  • Personal interview: 30%.

The elements to be assessed will be based on the level of agreement between the applicant’s basic training and the recommended admission profile detailed in section 3.2. as well as the interest and motivation expressed by the applicant. In the case of foreign students, we will also consider what impact attaining the doctorate degree might have on the applicant’s professional reach in their country of origin.

Secondly, students from other Master's or PhD Program Training Periods will be admitted. Likewise, in the event that the demand for admission continues to be greater than the offer available, the PhD Program’s Academic Committee will assess the scientific-technical and academic merits, in accordance with the scale detailed above.

The agreement of a doctor from the program will also be necessary, someone who has accredited research experience, to take on the work of thesis director.

There are no special tests to access this doctoral training.
A personal interview with the candidates may be carried out. This interview will be the responsibility of the PhD Program’s Academic Committee, together with the professors/researchers who offer places on their projects to carry out the research period. The objective is to determine the abilities and capacities of the candidates as well as their suitability for admission to one or other research line. A justified claim of merits may also be required as an assessment criterion.
