The Doctoral Thesis may be submitted under one of the two following modalities: compendium of publications (Modality A) or manuscript supported by publications (Modality B).
Modality A: Thesis by compendium of publications

Submission of the thesis as a compendium of publications will be permitted when it includes a minimum of three scientific contributions of the type recognized by the CNEAI (Spain's National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activity) for research assessments.

The doctoral candidate must appear as an author on the contributions presented.

The contributions must have been published or accepted during the years the student was enrolled in the PhD program. Additionally, those published or accepted in the year prior to the date of first enrollment in the corresponding PhD program will also be admitted.

The thesis by compendium of publications must contain at least:

a) An introduction describing the thematic unity and structure of the work, indicating which publications address each element of it.

b) The included publications.

c) General conclusions, indicating from which publication they are drawn.

Modality B: Thesis as a manuscript supported by publications
The doctoral thesis submitted in the traditional document format must be supported ("avalada") by a minimum of one accredited scientific contribution, which meets the criteria established by the CNEAI, and whose content is reflected in the thesis. The doctoral candidate must appear as an author of the presented contribution.
