ABSTRACT:
AGRI&TOUR aims to help university students and young farmers (among other target groups) who want to turn into agritourism, so they can do it the best way, knowing pros and cons and how to start and run the business. Up-to-date
information and training will be provided, while acting as a forum for debate and a loudspeaker for the cause, so funding this project would make a real enhancement.
Tourism has the potential to contribute, directly or indirectly, to all of the goals, in more ways than most industries. It’s one of the top GDP earners for countries, especially the Least Developed Countries of the world, it can reach into all corners of a country (not just in focused areas like extractive industries) and can offer great benefits to a country’s people at many levels. Achieving this agenda requires a clear implementation framework, adequate financing, and investment in technology, infrastructure, and human resources.
Agritourism is deeply rooted in the territory and has implications that go far beyond the recreational activity itself. It is inevitably a proximity tourism, km 0 (as the UE Farm to fork strategy). It plays a key role in European development by fostering sustainable rural economies, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting environmental stewardship. In addition, agritourism supports local artisans and producers, promoting regional products and cuisines, which strengthens local identities and traditions. It also encourages the conservation of landscapes and biodiversity, as visitors contribute to sustainable agricultural practices. By showcasing sustainable farming techniques and promoting local culture, agritourism can also raise awareness about environmental issues and inspire action for sustainability.
Moreover, agritourism can enhance the overall tourism sector in Europe, attracting visitors seeking authentic experiences while generating revenue that benefits rural areas. Ultimately, agritourism is crucial for balancing economic growth with ecological and cultural preservation across Europe.
