Description

"CALYPSOS" is a program aimed to support social inclusion as well as the specific needs and improvement of basic skills for inmates in Europe. The priority of this strategic association is focused on considering prison education as one more aspect of diversity education, fighting against discrimination and segregation of the inmates group, as a considerable part of this population can be classified as having specific needs of educational supports.

The objective of the project was to provide European institutions for education in prisons with better strategies for socio-educational innovation, implementing innovative learnings and strengthening their inclusive character, aiming for a final goal: increasing school success rates among prisoners. CALYPSOS has adapted and redesigned the original research to complete the collection of information with an international bigger sample from five selected prisons: two Spanish, two Italian and one Portuguese.

The result of the study based on general variables analysed, points out the existence of cognitive deficits in this population, that limit their capacity of learning academic tasks aimed at obtaining regulated school certification and other tasks related to the adaptation to their daily environment.
