Guidance

Guidance is a process that develops over the academic career and has three key moments when the students have to make decisions: choosing the degree, choosing the specialty or itinerary, and choosing the employment opportunities in the labour market. UAL aims to help students throughout this process: before enrolling at the University of Almeria, during their stay at UAL, and at the end of the training process, so that students make the best possible decisions when choosing their studies and when seeking employment opportunities.

Support and guidance for newly enrolled students

The University of Almeria provides newly enrolled students with the means to respond to their guidance needs. For this, the Vice-Rectorate for Students, Equality and Inclusion has the Secretariat for Student Attention and Guidance, which offers an open service to the entire university community. Its main role is to respond to the educational needs of the students relating to areas of Educational Guidance and Assistance that might occur during their stay at the University.

The activities of the Secretariat for Student Attention and Guidance revolve around two main lines of action:

  • Supporting secondary schools in developing their Educational Guidance tasks. At the request of the schools, work is done there to provide the necessary information for developing vocational guidance. http://www.ualjoven.ual.es/index.php/orientadores
  • Personalized attention for newly enrolled students during the transition process to the University. secatore@ual.es

An important time in the students’ lives is their transition from secondary schools to university. This transition is assisted by the “University of Almeria Transition Programme for Upper Secondary Education and Higher Vocational Training Programmes

Within the framework of this Programme, Pre-University Guidance Days are organized each year; these allow students from Upper Secondary Education and Higher Vocational Training Programmes to clarify doubts about access and admission to UAL, and to raise awareness of the degrees and services offered by the University.

For students with specific educational support needs, there is a dedicated plan developed by the Functional Diversity Assistance Unit (UADIF). The Action Plan for Functional Diversity Assistance at the University of Almeria aims to define UAL’s commitment to all those who make up the university community, having transversality and participation as key guidelines, and developing a wide range of services and support for students with functional diversity.

Support and Guidance for enrolled students

The University of Almeria promotes a series of initiatives to comply with Article 17 of Royal Decree 1393/207, and with Arts. 7 and 9 of Royal Decree 1791/2010, which deal with the support and guidance modalities for students enrolled in the different centres and schools.

Every year, during the first days of each course, Reception Days are held; these are organized by the different Faculties and Schools, the purpose of which is to showcase UAL’s degrees, resources and services to the newly enrolled students. They consist of a detailed presentation programme outlining the degree contents, the organizational character and expertise of the various UAL bodies, as well as the most important resources and services available to the university students.

The second annual events are the Welcome Days held at the beginning of October. On these days, all the Faculties and Schools participate; they are represented by teachers and volunteer students, who are responsible for guiding the university students. UAL Central Services also have information “stands” that provide guidance to students on access, enrolment, scholarships, culture, sport, and the library network, etc. Activities and events are also held by the different UAL Faculties and Schools.

The main instrument for supporting and guiding students enrolled in the various UAL degrees is Degree Tutoring. This forms part of the Tutorial Action considered in the Organizational and Regulatory Rules on the Coordinating Function of the Bachelor's and Master's Degrees at the University of Almeria, allowing degree students at the University of Almeria to request a degree tutor to assist and guide them in their learning process, in their transition to the world of work, and in their academic and professional development.

For students with specific educational support needs, or functional diversity, there is a dedicated plan developed by the Functional Diversity Assistance Unit (UADIF). The Action Plan for Functional Diversity Assistance at the University of Almeria aims to include all those who make up the university community, articulating the support measures required for the academic and social success of students with specific educational support needs.

To facilitate the transition to the world of work, UAL offers the possibility of receiving Professional Orientation through its University Employment Service. The aim is to improve the employment opportunities of students by guiding and informing them on the steps necessary to achieve results when seeking work and to access up-to-date information on job offers and training possibilities.
