Structure of the Degree

  • Module 1: BASIC TRAINING.
  • Module 2: ADVANCED MODERN LANGUAGE.
  • Module 3: SPANISH LITERATURE AND LITERARY THEORIES.
  • Module 4: SPANISH LANGUAGE AND LINGUISTIC THEORIES.
  • Module 5: DEGREE CONTEXTS, PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND UNDERGRADUATE DISSERTATION.

Time planning chart of the modules:

  • BASIC TRAINING (60 ECTS).

Basic Training (60 ECTS) is taught between the first and second year and, once it is completed, allows enrolling in other Bachelor's Degrees included in the Arts and Humanities Branch (currently, English Studies, History and Humanities). A second language (12 ECTS) must be offered to be developed in the core training in compliance with an Andalusian agreement.

  • CORE TRAINING (162 ECTS).

It is a requirement in the Andalusian Autonomous Region that the Bachelor's Degree in Hispanic Philology has the Advanced Modern Language Module (12 ECTS, in the same language as in Basic Training), Spanish Language and Linguistic Theories, and Spanish Literature and Literary Theories.

  • DEGREE CONTEXTS, PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENTS AND UNDERGRADUATE DISSERTATION (18 ECTS).

Overall, it composes a 18 ECTS cycle in which the elective subjects, the internships (or an alternative subjects) and the bachelor's dissertation must be taken.

  • REMARKS ABOUT MODERN LANGUAGES.
Modern Languages
  • One of the languages offered by the degree programme (Arabic or English) or any other language offered by the degrees of the Faculty of Humanities must be chosen. The degree provides for that the achievement of the 24 ECTS cycle comprising the subjects of MODERN LANGUAGE and ADVANCED MODERN LANGUAGE allows to reach a maximum instrumental command equivalent to B2+ of the European Framework.

  • Students must take, to obtain the degree, a full second language throughout the four years, taking into account that such language can be:

  • German: German I, German II, German III and German IV.
    Arabic: Arabic I, Arabic II, Arabic III and Arabic IV.
    French: French I, French II, French III, French IV.
    English: English I, English II, English III and English for academic purposes.

  • Although students want to take more than one language, it is suggested that they should choose the same language both semesters, due to language subjects have prerequisites.

Compulsory 1st and 3rd years
Compulsory Subjects
3rd year students must take one of the two following compulsory subjects:
  • Classical Tradition in Spanish Literature: Mythology Reception. or
  • Classical Tradition in Spanish Literature: Rhetoric and Poetry Reception.
3rd year students must take one of the two following compulsory subjects:
  • Classical Language: Latin, or
  • Classical Language: Greek.
Elective 4th year
Elective Subjects
4th year students must take 6 elective credits. They can choose between the following subject and those offered in the general elective course catalogue.
  • Literature and Gender.
