"Mathematics Education in the XXI century"
This report, which will be followed by a discussion,
will state the goals that Mathematics Education intends to achieve
in this century, at a worldwide level and at the level of the
European Union.
Session Description:
Three working groups will be proposed,
with communications around a central topic, and a final discussion of
the different approaches. The topics for the sessions will be:
- Teacher education in mathematics:
Alternative models for mathematics teacher education will be presented, and its advantages and disadvantages will be discussed.
- Assessment in the mathematics classroom:
New trends in research on assessment: self-assessment,
assessment of students with special needs, assessment by peers, …
- The impact of new technologies in Mathematics Education:
How the teaching of mathematics is modified by the introduction of the graphic calculator, didactical software (Cabri, applets, etc.)
