IOBC/WPRS Working Group “Pesticides and beneficial organisms”

On behalf of the International Organization for Biological and Integrated Control of Noxious Animals and Plants (IOBC), you are cordially invited to participate at the next meeting of the IOBC WG “Pesticides and Beneficial Organisms“, that will be held in Marbella, Spain, from 8th to 10th November 2011. The meeting will be conducted in English.
TOPICS TO BE COVERED
• Implementation of results from side-effect tests into IPM. Specific attention will be given to the use of results generated by IOBC WG members for building Pesticide selectivity lists and database
• Procedures to test side effects of pesticides / control methods on important beneficial organisms. All testing tiers, but especially extended laboratory, semi-field and field tests. Presentation and discussion of new or optimized methods; completion of sequential testing schemes. Please consider IOBC standards.
• Test methods for special plant protection products, e.g. IGRs, soil-incorporated granules or seed dressings, special use patterns.
• Duration of effects (natural substrates, exposure under realistic conditions, aged residues) and implementation into IPM.
• Field tests: Test design, sampling techniques, statistics; extrapolation of field studies to different regions, different crops: Is this possible?
• Side-effects of pesticides in glasshouse crops/open field/orchards.
• Side effects of biological control agents (e.g. Bt, fungi, viruses).
• Sublethal effects of pesticides, methods, significance and acceptability.
• Comparison of results between species and biotypes.
• Comparison of results from laboratory, extended laboratory, semi-field and field tests; extrapolation laboratory – field.
• Other topics related to side-effects

PRESENTATIONS
For questions about organization, only Oral presentations are acceptable (no Posters allowed). A standard presentation will last 15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions. Ample time will be allotted during the meeting for open questions and discussion. If you think you need more or less time for your presentation, let us know, because it is possible to adapt the schedule.
ABSTRACTS
YOU MUST SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT in English as an attached file, saved in format of Microsoft Word (Office 2003 or 2007) to the Secretariat of the symposium iobc@ual.es with copy to the WG Convenor Labecotox@cra.wallonie.be FOLLOWING THE FORMAT DESCRIBED IN the Abstract form available at the Symposium homepage www.ual.es/Congresos/iobc/index.htm, BEFORE 30 SEPTEMBER.
The abstract should always include title, author name(s) (presenter underlined), and addresses including one e-mail address.
The Book of Abstract will be provided to each participant at the registration desk during the meeting.
PUBLICATION
Proceedings of the meeting will be published as an IOBC/WPRS Bulletin. Therefore you are asked to prepare maximum 4-page single-spaced manuscript, which should be submitted to the organizers before the meeting, THE LATEST UNTIL 8 NOVEMBER 2011.

PLEASE CAREFULLY FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN ORDER TO AVOID LATER MISUNDERSTANDINGS.
PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
-Monday, 7th November 2011: Arrival, Get-together cocktail in the evening.
-Tuesday, 8th November 2011: Registration, Opening session, Oral presentation sessions (morning and afternoon session).
-Wednesday, 9th th November 2011: Oral presentation sessions (morning session), Excursion, Social Dinner (afternoon and evening).
-Thusday, 10 th November 2011: Oral presentation sessions (morning session*). Closing of the meeting.
*According to the number of presentations, the program will be adapted to try to close the meeting at 12.00h-13.00h but if needed, an afternoon session will be added.

IOBC FUNDS
Students who would like to receive PARTIAL FUNDING of their participation costs should contact the Convenor of the WG, Dr Jean Pierre Janssen at Labecotox@cra.wallonie.be.
Limited IOBC funds are available to assist travel costs of participants. A CONDITION FOR ANY KIND OF FUNDING IS THAT A PRESENTATION IS GIVEN. Priority will be given to members that have little or no support from their organizations.
CANCELLATION POLICY
Our refund policy is based upon receiving notification as follows:
· Received until 31 August, 2011 - full refund less 70€ handling fee
· Received after 31 August and before 15 October, 2011 - 50% refund
· Received after 15 October , 2011 - no refund
ACCOMMODATION
The meeting will be held at the Hotel El Fuerte de Marbella. Rooms will be available at a reduced rate from the 3rd to the 13th November 2011 for those wishing to arrive earlier or prolong their stay.
Single or double rooms with breakfast can be booked using the Hotel reservation form available at the Symposium homepage www.ual.es/Congresos/iobc/index.htm.
The reduced room rate is available only for reservations made before 15 July, therefore please send in your reservation form before this date.

CLIMATE AND CLOTHING
The temperature in Marbella in November is approx 24 ºC (75 F) during the day, and cooler at night. We suggest you bring lighter clothing for the day and a jacket for the evening.

Direct flights to Málaga (located at a distance of 50km from Marbella) or connecting flights via Madrid or Barcelona exist from most major airports in Europe by regular or charter companies. If you need advice on the most cost-effective routes and airlines please contact your local Travel Agent.
